Is it safe to suck on the pacifier before giving it to an infant?

that's probably some old school way of doing it. I dont think it causes any harm unless the person is sick. it IS, however, gross!! tell them to rinse it with water if they think it has to be moistened. saliva does not kill germs, it puts germs on it. and, as i said before...eeeww
